Acer Iconia Tab A700 Review

Shortly after the unveiling of the Acer Iconia Tab A200, the company offers us the even hotter Acer Iconia Tab A700. The tablet represents an entirely new look compared earlier tablet, the Tab A500. It comes with 1900×1200 pixels resolution, much higher than the 1280×800 pixels resolution used in the Asus Transformer Prime. The Acer Iconia Tab A700 also runs the Nvidia Tegra 3 quad core processor, which is supported by 1 GB of RAM. At 224 ppi, the tablet doesn’t offer something similar to the new iPad’s Retina display, but the texts and images are still incredibly sharp. The tablet arrives in two versions, 32 GB and 64 GB.

When using the tablet for the first time, you’ll be greeted by the intuitive and clean home screen. One noteworthy advantage of the tablet is the lack of overbearing glare. The Iconia Tab A700 introduces a new display design, with minimal gap between the outer glass layer and the display underneath, which significantly helps to mitigate the glare. The anti glare coating on the glass layer also ensures the tablet to become an overall glare-free device.

The Acer Iconia Tab A700, feels good in hand, but it is still a bit heavier that you would like while reading using one hand only. The Iconia Tab A700 is slightly lighter than the Tab A500, but still heavier than the iPad 2 and the Galaxy Tab 10.1.

The tablet uses the microUSB port for transferring data and charging. Gone is the boon of the Iconia Tab A500: the full-sized USB port, which was much appreciated by its users. However, under the flap, you can still find the SIM card slot and the microSD card slot, while the microHDMI port is found outside the flap.

Compared to Honeycomb tablets, the tablet interface of Ice Cream Sandwich shows plenty of similarities, for example the “recently access apps” view remains unchanged. However, the app menu is tweaked slightly to make widgets much more accessible.
