Alcatel showed off numerous new tablets earlier this month that were mostly 7” models. But, the Alcatel One Touch Tab 8 HD comes with a bigger 8” (1024 x 768) display. The device also has Jelly Bean (Android 4.1) OS, 1.6GHz dual-core processor, 8GB of NAND onboard storage, microSD card slot and 1GB of RAM.

There are a 2Mp camera on the back and also a VGA (0.3Mp) front-facing camera. The tablet will be available for $179 in the United States in Q3 2013. Connectivity options include microUSB port, WiFi and Bluetooth. Tablets with 8” display are considered suitable for those thinking 7” tablets too small and 10.1” models too big.

It appears the Touch Tab 8 HD will compete directly with iPad Mini, which has a slightly smaller display and more expensive. Overall, the tablet seems to have decent specs detail for the affordable price tag.
